Synopsis – What to Expect from “Struck by Lightning”
Struck by Lightning is a 2012 American teen comedy-drama film written and directed by Brian Dannelly. The film stars Chris Colfer, Rebel Wilson, Christina Hendricks, Dermot Mulroney, Sarah Hyland, and Allison Janney.
The film follows the story of Carson Phillips (Colfer), a high school senior who is determined to escape his small town life by attending Northwestern University. In order to achieve his goal, Carson begins to blackmail his peers into contributing to his literary magazine.
When Carson’s blackmailing is revealed to the school, he is ostracized by his classmates, and his dreams of attending Northwestern seem to be slipping away. Carson’s mother (Janney) is struggling to keep her family together, and his father (Mulroney) is too busy with his new family to pay attention to Carson.
In a desperate attempt to salvage his dreams, Carson begins to write a tell-all book about his classmates and the events leading up to his blackmailing. With the help of his best friend Malerie (Hyland), Carson is able to finish the book and submit it to a publisher.
The book is a success, and Carson is offered a scholarship to Northwestern. As he is about to embark on his new life, Carson is struck by lightning and killed.
At Carson’s funeral, his classmates realize the impact he had on their lives, and they come together
