Stop Making Sense is a 1984 American concert film featuring a live performance by the band Talking Heads. The film was directed by Jonathan Demme and stars David Byrne, Chris Frantz, Tina Weymouth, and Jerry Harrison.
The film opens with a short introduction by David Byrne, the lead singer of the band, who explains that the concert will be a mix of old and new songs. He then introduces the first song, “Psycho Killer”. The band plays a series of songs, each one getting bigger and more elaborate than the last. The set includes a large number of instruments, including keyboards, drums, guitars, bass, and horns.
The band then performs “Once in a Lifetime”, which features a large number of backup singers and dancers. The performance culminates in a long, chaotic jam session.
The film then cuts to a backstage interview with Byrne, in which he talks about the band’s unique sound and style. He also explains the band’s approach to improvisation and the importance of having a good sense of humor.
The film then cuts back to the concert, featuring the songs “Life During Wartime” and “Take Me to the River”. The band then performs “Burning Down the House”, which features a long, extended jam session.
The film then cuts to a short interview with the band’s sound engineer, in which he explains the importance of sound mixing in creating the band’s unique sound.
