Synopsis/Plot
State of Play is a 2009 British-American political thriller directed by Kevin Macdonald and starring an ensemble cast including Russell Crowe, Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams, Helen Mirren, Robin Wright, and Jason Bateman.
The film follows a team of investigative reporters as they uncover a complex web of political intrigue and corporate espionage while investigating the mysterious death of a congressional aide. When a young journalist, Cal McAffrey (Russell Crowe), begins to dig deeper into the case, he finds himself in the middle of a dangerous game of corporate espionage and political intrigue.
The film follows Cal and his team of reporters as they uncover a tangled web of corruption and deceit that reaches the highest levels of government and business. As the investigation progresses, Cal discovers that his former college roommate, Stephen Collins (Ben Affleck), is involved in the case. Meanwhile, a powerful political consultant, Dominic Foy (Jason Bateman), is working to protect his client’s interests.
