Synopsis – What to Expect from “State of Grace”
State of Grace is a 1990 crime drama directed by Phil Joanou and starring Sean Penn, Ed Harris, Gary Oldman, Robin Wright, John Turturro, and John C. Reilly.
The movie is set in the Irish-American Hell’s Kitchen area of New York City in the late 1980s. Terry Noonan (Sean Penn) returns to his old neighborhood after a long absence. He is welcomed back by his childhood friend, Jackie Flannery (Ed Harris), who is now a powerful leader in the Irish mob. Terry is soon drawn into Jackie’s world and the two become inseparable.
Terry’s presence in the mob brings a new level of tension to the area. He and Jackie are soon at odds with Jackie’s rival, Frankie Flannery (Gary Oldman). Frankie is determined to take control of the area and is willing to do whatever it takes to do so.
Meanwhile, Terry’s old flame, Kathleen (Robin Wright), is still living in the area. She is now married to a police officer, and she and Terry soon rekindle their relationship. This puts Terry in a difficult position, as he is now torn between his loyalty to Jackie and the law.
The situation soon escalates into an all-out gang war. Terry and Jackie must join forces to take on Frankie and protect their turf. As the violence increases, Terry and Kathleen must decide how far they are willing to go to protect their love and
