Synopsis/Plot
Star Trek Into Darkness is a 2013 American science fiction action film directed by J. J. Abrams and written by Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, and Damon Lindelof. It is the twelfth installment in the Star Trek film franchise and the sequel to the 2009 film Star Trek. The film features Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, Bruce Greenwood, Benedict Cumberbatch, Alice Eve, and Peter Weller.
Set in the 23rd century, the film follows the crew of the USS Enterprise as they confront a mysterious and powerful terrorist called John Harrison, who has attacked Starfleet and the Federation. Harrison is revealed to be an oldenemy of the Federation, Khan Noonien Singh, who was thought to have been killed centuries earlier. With the help of the Enterprise crew, Admiral Alexander Marcus launches a massive manhunt for Khan, leading to an all-out battle between the Enterprise and Khan’s vastly superior forces.
The film received generally positive reviews from critics and was a box office success, grossing over $467 million worldwide. It was nominated for several awards, including four at the 86th Academy Awards. A sequel, Star Trek Beyond, was released in 2016.
