Synopsis – What to Expect from “Spider”
Spider is a psychological thriller directed by David Cronenberg. The film follows the story of Dennis Cleg, a mentally disturbed man who has been released from a mental institution into the care of his mother. He is haunted by memories of his father, who committed suicide when Dennis was a child.
Dennis moves into a dilapidated house in a poor area of London and begins to suffer from hallucinations. He is obsessed with spiders and believes they are communicating with him. He starts to build a web of lies and deceit as he attempts to make sense of his life.
Meanwhile, Dennis’ mother is struggling to come to terms with her son’s condition and is desperate to help him. She enlists the help of a psychiatrist, Dr. Margaret Crosby. Dennis is initially hostile towards Dr. Crosby, but gradually begins to open up to her.
The film follows Dennis as he begins to unravel the truth about his past. He discovers that his father was a criminal and that his mother had been hiding the truth from him. As the story progresses, Dennis becomes increasingly paranoid and unstable.
Eventually, Dennis’ web of lies and deceit leads him to the brink of insanity. He is driven to the point of violence and is forced to confront the truth about himself and his family. In the end, Dennis is able to come to terms with his past and find a way to move forward.
