Synopsis/Plot
Sparkle is a 2012 American musical drama film directed by Salim Akil and produced by Debra Martin Chase, Whitney Houston, and T.D. Jakes. The film is a remake of the 1976 film of the same name and stars Jordin Sparks, Whitney Houston, Derek Luke, Mike Epps, Cee-Lo Green, and Carmen Ejogo.
Set in Detroit, Michigan during the late 1950s, Sparkle follows the story of three singing sisters, Sparkle (Jordin Sparks), Sister (Carmen Ejogo), and Dolores (Tika Sumpter). The sisters form a girl group and are quickly discovered by a music producer, Stix (Derek Luke). As their career takes off, the girls must deal with the pressures of fame and fortune, as well as the temptations of the music industry.
The film explores the themes of love, family, faith, and the power of music. Through the struggles of the sisters, the audience is taken on an emotional journey of hope, heartache, and ultimately, redemption.
