Synopsis – What to Expect from “Spare Parts”
Spare Parts is a 2015 American drama film directed by Sean McNamara and starring George Lopez, Jamie Lee Curtis, Marisa Tomei, and Carlos PenaVega. The film tells the true story of four Hispanic high school students who form a robotics club under the leadership of their school’s newest teacher, Fredi Cameron (George Lopez). With no experience, 800 bucks, used car parts and a vision, this rag tag team goes up against the country’s reigning robotics champion, MIT.
The film follows the four teenagers, Oscar Vasquez (Carlos PenaVega), Cristian Arcega (Jose Julian), Lorenzo Santillan (David Del Rio), and Luis Aranda (Jorge Diaz) as they form a robotics club at their high school in Phoenix, Arizona. With the help of their teacher and mentor, Fredi Cameron (George Lopez), the four boys work together to build a robot out of spare parts and enter it in a national robotics competition.
The team faces many obstacles, both inside and outside the classroom. They must overcome a lack of resources, financial constraints, and the pressures of family and society. Despite these challenges, the four boys remain determined to succeed and prove to the world that they are capable of achieving greatness.
