Synopsis – What to Expect from “Song of the Sea”
Song of the Sea is a 2014 animated fantasy film written and directed by Tomm Moore. It follows the story of Ben and his little sister Saoirse, two Irish children who discover that they are selkies, magical beings who can transform from seals into humans.
The story begins with the death of their mother, leaving Ben and Saoirse in the care of their father, Conor. Conor is distant and withdrawn, and refuses to tell the children about their mother or the mysterious past of their family.
One day, Saoirse discovers a hidden cave and finds an ancient shell that contains a magical song. She begins to sing the song and soon discovers that she can turn into a seal. Ben and Saoirse soon realize that they are selkies, and that their mother was one too.
Ben and Saoirse set off on a magical journey to find a way to save Saoirse from her fate. Along the way, they encounter a variety of magical creatures, including fairies, giants, and witches. They also discover that their mother’s death was caused by the evil Macha, an owl witch who seeks to enslave all of the selkies.
