Synopsis – What to Expect from “Song for Marion”
Song for Marion is a 2012 British-German comedy-drama film directed by Paul Andrew Williams and starring Terence Stamp, Gemma Arterton, Christopher Eccleston and Vanessa Redgrave.
The story follows Arthur, a grumpy pensioner, who is reluctantly inspired by his beloved wife Marion to join a highly unconventional local choir. Despite his initial reluctance, Arthur soon finds himself on an extraordinary journey, which will ultimately test his relationships with those he holds most dear.
The film begins with a loving couple, Arthur and Marion, who have been married for many years. Marion is a cheerful, outgoing woman who loves to sing and is a member of the unconventional local choir called “The OAPs” (Old Age Pensioners). Despite her enthusiasm, Arthur is reluctant to join the choir, feeling that it is a waste of his time.
However, when Marion is diagnosed with a terminal illness, Arthur begins to reassess his life. He decides to join the choir in order to make his wife happy and to give her something to look forward to.
The choir is composed of other elderly people and is led by a young and enthusiastic choir director, Elizabeth. Initially, Arthur is the only one who isn’t enthusiastic about the choir and he is often at odds with the other members. However, as the rehearsals progress, Arthur begins to bond with the other members of the choir and he even starts to enjoy singing.
