Synopsis – What to Expect from “Something New”
Something New is a romantic comedy-drama film released in 2006. The movie follows the story of Kenya McQueen, an African-American woman in her thirties who is a successful corporate executive but is still single. She is a control freak and is too focused on her career to find time for love.
Kenya’s best friend, Lisa, sets her up on a blind date with a white man named Brian Kelly. Despite her initial hesitations, Kenya agrees to the date. The two hit it off and start to date, with Kenya’s family and friends disapproving of the interracial relationship.
Kenya and Brian’s relationship hits a few bumps along the way. Kenya’s ex-boyfriend, Mark, tries to win her back, while Brian’s ex-girlfriend, Angela, tries to get him back. Kenya’s family and friends continue to disapprove of her relationship with Brian.
Kenya is forced to confront her feelings about race and her own identity as she navigates her relationship with Brian. In the end, she learns to embrace her differences and finds happiness with the man she loves.
The movie ends with Kenya and Brian getting married and finally being accepted by Kenya’s family and friends. The movie is a heartwarming story of love, acceptance, and finding your own identity.
