Synopsis/Plot
Some Like It Hot is a classic 1959 American comedy directed by Billy Wilder. The movie stars Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis, and Jack Lemmon as three musicians who witness a mob hit and have to go on the run. In order to escape the mob, they disguise themselves as women and join an all-female band. They soon find themselves in the middle of a love triangle between millionaire Osgood Fielding III and Sugar Kane, the band’s vocalist.
The movie follows the three musicians as they try to stay one step ahead of the mob while also navigating the complexities of their new identities. Curtis and Lemmon must contend with the difficulties of living as women while also trying to win the affections of Sugar Kane. Meanwhile, Monroe’s character, Sugar, must come to terms with her feelings for both men, as well as her own insecurities.
The movie’s humor is derived from the characters’ situations, and the actors’ performances. Monroe is especially memorable as the naive and vulnerable Sugar. Curtis and Lemmon also bring a lot of energy to their roles, and their chemistry with each other is a joy to watch.
