Synopsis/Plot
Some Kind of Wonderful is a 1987 romantic comedy-drama directed by Howard Deutch and written by John Hughes. The film stars Eric Stoltz, Mary Stuart Masterson, and Lea Thompson.
The story follows the life of Keith Nelson (Stoltz), a working-class high school student who is in love with his best friend, Amanda Jones (Thompson). Amanda is the most popular girl in school, and is dating a wealthy and handsome classmate, Hardy Jenns (Craig Sheffer). Keith is a talented artist, but his social standing keeps him from expressing his true feelings for Amanda.
When Keith discovers that Hardy is planning to take Amanda to a prestigious art school in France, he devises a plan to win her heart. He enlists the help of his tomboyish friend, Watts (Masterson), to pose as his date to the school dance. Keith’s plan works, and Amanda is impressed by his courage and determination.
The film follows Keith and Watts as they navigate their newfound relationship and the obstacles that come with it. They eventually come to terms with their feelings for each other and, in the end, find a kind of wonderful that they never expected.
