Synopsis – What to Expect from “Some Girls”
Some Girls is a 1988 romantic comedy-drama written and directed by Michael Hoffman. The film follows the story of a college student, Michael (Patrick Dempsey), who is visiting his old hometown for the summer. He quickly finds himself smitten with a local girl, Gail (Jennifer Connelly), who is a bit of a wild child.
Michael and Gail quickly become close and he soon finds himself in the middle of a complicated love triangle with Gail and her ex-boyfriend, Will (Chris Makepeace). As the summer progresses, Michael and Gail’s relationship becomes increasingly complicated as they both struggle to come to terms with their feelings and their respective situations.
Meanwhile, Michael’s friend, David (Robert Downey Jr.), is also visiting his old hometown and finds himself in a relationship with a local girl, Lisa (Lara Flynn Boyle). David and Lisa’s relationship is also complicated by their respective situations and they both struggle to make it work.
As the summer comes to a close, Michael, Gail, David, and Lisa all come to terms with their feelings and their respective situations. Michael and Gail are forced to make a difficult decision about their future and David and Lisa must decide if their relationship is worth fighting for. In the end, all four characters are forced to confront their feelings and make decisions that will shape the rest of their lives.
