Synopsis/Plot
So Cold the River is a 2010 psychological thriller written and directed by Michael Linn. The film stars Michael Shannon, Laura Linney, and Wes Bentley.
The story follows a documentary filmmaker named Eric (Shannon) who is hired by a wealthy elderly woman, Arianne (Linney) to make a film about her late father. Eric is given access to her father’s personal artifacts, including a mysterious bottle of mineral water that has been sitting in the family’s basement for generations. Eric soon discovers that the water has strange powers, and he begins to experience vivid visions and dreams that take him back to the early 1900s.
Eric’s visions lead him to a small town in Indiana called Mineral Springs, where hediscovers a dark secret about Arianne’s father and the town’s past. As Eric’s investigation deepens, he finds himself in a dangerous game of cat and mouse with a powerful and mysterious force that has been manipulating the town for generations. With the help of a local historian and Arianne’s daughter (Bentley), Eric must uncover the truth before it’s too late.
