Synopsis/Plot
Snowden is a 2016 biographical thriller film directed by Oliver Stone and written by Stone and Kieran Fitzgerald. The film stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Edward Snowden, a former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) employee and contractor for the National Security Agency (NSA) who leaked classified information from the NSA to the press in 2013.
The film follows Snowden’s journey from his early life as a patriotic soldier and computer specialist in the Army Reserve to his eventual role as a whistleblower. It also covers the events leading up to his controversial decision to leak classified information and the aftermath that followed.
The story begins with Snowden’s childhood in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, where he is raised by his parents, who instill in him a strong sense of patriotism and a desire to serve his country. After graduating high school, Snowden joins the Army Reserve and is eventually deployed to Iraq. Upon returning home, he is recruited by the CIA and begins working as a computer specialist.
Snowden eventually moves to Japan, where he begins working for the NSA. During his time there, he discovers a massive surveillance program that is being used to spy on citizens of the United States and other countries. He becomes increasingly concerned about the implications of this
