Synopsis – What to Expect from “Small Time Crooks”
Small Time Crooks tells the story of Ray and Frenchy, two small-time crooks who are looking to make big money. Ray (Woody Allen) is a former pizza deliveryman who has a plan to rob a bank. He enlists the help of his ex-con friend Frenchy (Tracey Ullman) and her two dim-witted brothers, Tommy (Michael Rapaport) and Cookie (Jon Lovitz).
The plan is to dig a tunnel into the bank vault and steal the money. But their plan goes awry when the tunnel collapses and they are forced to abandon the heist. Desperate for a way to make money, they decide to open a cookie store in the front of the bank. Ray and Frenchy hire a group of misfits to help them with the store and the business quickly takes off.
However, their success is short-lived when the bank’s security system is triggered and the police are alerted. Ray and Frenchy are forced to flee the scene and the police soon discover that the cookie store was a front for a bank robbery.
The movie follows Ray and Frenchy as they try to stay one step ahead of the law while trying to make their fortune. Along the way, they must deal with a variety of colorful characters, including a shady lawyer, a corrupt cop, and a mysterious stranger.
