Synopsis – What to Expect from “Sleuth”
Sleuth is a psychological thriller released in 1972, directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz and starring Laurence Olivier and Michael Caine.
The movie follows the story of Andrew Wyke (Laurence Olivier), a wealthy and successful mystery novelist who lives in an isolated country home. One day, Andrew receives an unexpected visit from Milo Tindle (Michael Caine), a younger man who has been having an affair with Andrew’s wife. Milo has come to the house to ask Andrew for a divorce settlement, but Andrew has other plans in mind.
Andrew proposes a game to Milo – a game of cat and mouse in which Andrew will try to outwit Milo and make him look foolish. Andrew proposes that Milo should steal a valuable piece of jewelry from the house, and Andrew will then report it to the police and collect the insurance money. Milo reluctantly agrees, and sets out to steal the jewelry.
However, as the game progresses, Andrew and Milo become increasingly entangled in a web of deceit and manipulation. Andrew begins to suspect that Milo may be up to something more sinister than stealing jewelry, and the two men become locked in a battle of wits and deception.
As the game reaches its climax, Andrew and Milo’s relationship is strained to the breaking point. In the end, the truth of what really happened that night is revealed, and Andrew and Milo must confront the consequences of their actions.
