Synopsis – What to Expect from “Sidekicks”
“Sidekicks” is a 1992 martial arts comedy-drama about a young boy named Barry Gabrewski (Jonathan Brandis) who dreams of becoming a martial arts master like his idol, Chuck Norris. When Barry’s parents are killed in a car accident, he is sent to live with his uncle, a martial arts instructor.
Barry is constantly bullied by the other kids at school and is desperate to learn martial arts to defend himself. After his uncle refuses to teach him, Barry turns to his hero, Chuck Norris, for help. Chuck agrees to train Barry, and the two become close friends.
Meanwhile, a local martial arts tournament is announced, and Barry is determined to win it. He trains hard and begins to show promise, but his uncle is still skeptical. As the tournament draws near, Barry finds himself up against a formidable opponent.
The tournament is a grueling test of strength and skill, but Barry is determined to win. With Chuck’s help, Barry is able to overcome his opponent and win the tournament. After the tournament, Barry and Chuck part ways, but Barry’s newfound confidence and self-esteem remain with him.
