Synopsis – What to Expect from “Shining Through”
Shining Through is a 1992 romantic drama set during World War II. Linda Voss (Melanie Griffith) is an American secretary working in New York City in 1940. She is hired by Ed Leland (Michael Douglas), a mysterious lawyer who is secretly working for the British government. He assigns Linda to a job in Berlin, and she soon finds herself thrust into the dangerous and unpredictable world of espionage.
Linda is initially overwhelmed by her new assignment, but she soon proves her worth by using her language skills and knowledge of German culture to infiltrate the Nazi regime. She is aided by a handsome German officer, Friedrich (Liam Neeson), who falls in love with her despite her allegiance to the Allied forces. With Friedrich’s help, Linda is able to uncover vital information and pass it on to the British secret service.
Meanwhile, Linda’s own personal life is in turmoil as she struggles to make sense of her feelings for Friedrich and Ed. When Ed reveals his true identity and intentions, Linda must make a difficult decision about her future. In the end, she finds the courage to follow her heart and fight for a better future.
