Synopsis – What to Expect from “Shanghai”
Shanghai is an Indian political thriller film directed by Dibakar Banerjee, released in 2010. It stars Abhay Deol, Emraan Hashmi, Kalki Koechlin, and Prosenjit Chatterjee.
The story revolves around the life of Joginder (Abhay Deol), a small-time journalist in Mumbai, who is sent to Shanghai by the government to investigate the death of a prominent political leader. Upon arriving in Shanghai, Joginder discovers that the death of the leader was a part of a much larger conspiracy involving a powerful politician, a corrupt police officer, and a ruthless gangster.
Joginder teams up with a local Chinese girl, Meera (Kalki Koechlin), to uncover the truth behind the conspiracy. Together, they find themselves in a dangerous game of cat and mouse as they try to stay one step ahead of the powerful people who are out to get them.
As the story progresses, Joginder and Meera discover the shocking truth behind the death of the political leader and the conspiracy that is behind it. They must now fight to bring justice to the people of Shanghai and expose the truth.
