Synopsis – What to Expect from “Sgt. Bilko”
Sgt. Bilko is a 1996 comedy film directed by Jonathan Lynn and starring Steve Martin, Dan Aykroyd, and Phil Hartman. The film follows the misadventures of Master Sergeant Ernest G. Bilko (Martin), a con artist and master of disguise, as he attempts to swindle the U.S. Army out of money.
The film begins with Bilko’s arrival at Fort Baxter in Roseville, Kansas, where he is assigned to lead the motor pool. He quickly takes advantage of the lax military regulations, and begins running a number of scams and schemes to make money. He also begins to undermine his commanding officer, Colonel John Hall (Aykroyd), by outsmarting him at every turn.
Bilko’s schemes come to a head when he gets the idea to set up a casino in the motor pool. He enlists the help of his fellow soldiers to make the casino a reality, and begins to attract the attention of the higher-ups in the Army.
Meanwhile, Colonel Hall is determined to put an end to Bilko’s shenanigans, and he sets out to prove that Bilko is running an illegal business. With the help of his second-in-command, Major Colin Thorn (Hartman), Hall begins to investigate Bilko’s activities.
