Synopsis/Plot
Sex, Lies, and Videotape is a 1989 American independent drama film written and directed by Steven Soderbergh. It tells the story of four people in Baton Rouge, Louisiana whose lives become intertwined when one of them records the other three discussing their innermost secrets on video.
The film stars James Spader as Graham, Andie MacDowell as Ann, Peter Gallagher as John, and Laura San Giacomo as Cynthia. Graham is a former college friend of John and Cynthia, and he visits them in Baton Rouge to rekindle their friendship. Ann is John’s wife, and she is unhappy with their marriage and is having an affair with John’s brother.
Graham’s presence in the house brings up unresolved issues between the three friends, and he begins to record them talking about their secrets. Ann is particularly intrigued by Graham’s videotaping, and the two of them develop a close bond.
