Synopsis – What to Expect from “Sex and the Single Girl”
Sex and the Single Girl is a 1964 romantic comedy directed by Richard Quine and starring Tony Curtis, Natalie Wood, Henry Fonda, Lauren Bacall, and Mel Ferrer.
The movie follows Helen Gurley Brown (Natalie Wood), an ambitious and successful career woman who is unashamedly single. She is the author of the controversial best-selling book, Sex and the Single Girl, which is about the sexual liberation of women.
Helen is determined to remain single, despite the pressures of society and her family. She is pursued by Bob Weston (Tony Curtis), a journalist who has been hired to write a story about her. Bob is determined to get the scoop on Helen’s personal life, but as he gets to know her better, he falls in love with her.
Meanwhile, Helen is pursued by wealthy playboy Frank Broderick (Henry Fonda), who is determined to make her his wife. Helen is tempted by Frank’s lavish lifestyle, but she is determined to remain independent and true to herself.
The movie follows the romantic entanglements and misadventures of Helen, Bob, and Frank as they all try to find their way to happiness. In the end, Helen is faced with a difficult decision between her independence and true love.
