Synopsis/Plot
Senna is a 2010 British documentary film that chronicles the life and death of Brazilian Formula One racing driver Ayrton Senna. Directed by Asif Kapadia and produced by Manish Pandey, the film is constructed from archive footage of Senna’s career, and home videos of the driver.
The film begins with Senna’s debut in Formula One in 1984, and follows him through his rise to fame and his three world championship wins. It documents the intense rivalry between Senna and fellow driver Alain Prost, and their ongoing battles on the track. It also looks at Senna’s personal life, chronicling his struggles with the politics of racing, and his commitment to the people of Brazil.
The film culminates in Senna’s tragic death at the San Marino Grand Prix in 1994. Through interviews with Senna’s family, friends, and colleagues, the film paints a portrait of a complex man, who was both a fierce competitor and a deeply spiritual individual.
