Synopsis/Plot
Searching is a 2018 American psychological thriller film directed by Aneesh Chaganty and written by Chaganty and Sev Ohanian. It stars John Cho, Debra Messing, and Joseph Lee.
The film follows David Kim (John Cho), a widowed father of a teenage daughter, Margot (Michelle La). After Margot mysteriously disappears, David begins a frantic search to find her, enlisting the help of Detective Rosemary Vick (Debra Messing) and a host of online sleuths. As the search intensifies, David soon discovers that the truth behind Margot’s disappearance is more complex than he ever imagined.
Searching is told entirely from the perspective of computer and smartphone screens, with the audience following David through his journey as he scours through social media posts, emails, and video chat logs to uncover clues about his daughter’s disappearance. Along the way, he is forced to confront the truth about his relationship with Margot and the secrets he’s kept from her.
