Synopsis – What to Expect from “Searching for Sugar Man”
Searching for Sugar Man is a 2012 documentary film about the life and music of the mysterious and unknown singer-songwriter, Rodriguez. The film follows two South African fans, Stephen Segerman and Craig Bartholomew-Strydom, as they search for the truth behind the rumors that Rodriguez had died in a suicide onstage.
The film opens with Rodriguez’s story, beginning with his rise to fame in the early 1970s. His music was a mix of folk, soul, and rock, and he quickly became a cult figure in South Africa, with his albums outselling those of Elvis and the Rolling Stones.
