Synopsis – What to Expect from “Scum”
Scum is a British film released in 1979. It follows the story of young offenders in a British borstal, a youth prison, and their struggles to survive in a harsh and oppressive environment.
The movie begins with a young offender, Carlin, being sent to the borstal. He soon finds himself at the bottom of the social hierarchy among the other inmates. He faces constant bullying and violence from the other inmates, as well as the guards. Carlin is determined to survive and make the best of his situation, but his attempts to fit in are met with hostility.
Meanwhile, a new inmate, Archer, arrives and quickly rises to the top of the social ladder. He and his gang of loyal followers become the dominant force in the prison, controlling the other inmates through fear and violence. Carlin finds himself in a difficult situation, as he is forced to choose between joining Archer’s gang and facing their wrath, or standing alone and facing the constant bullying of the other inmates.
Carlin eventually decides to join the gang, and soon finds himself becoming more and more like Archer. He begins to participate in the gang’s violent activities, and even takes part in a brutal attack on another inmate.
The movie culminates in a violent riot, as the inmates revolt against the oppressive environment of the borstal. In the chaos, Carlin is forced to make a decision between his loyalty to Archer and his own sense of morality. He
