Synopsis/Plot
Scent of a Woman is a 1992 American drama film directed by Martin Brest and starring Al Pacino, Chris O’Donnell, and James Rebhorn. The movie follows the story of a prep school student, Charlie Simms (Chris O’Donnell), who takes a job to serve as an assistant to a retired United States Army officer, Lt. Col. Frank Slade (Al Pacino), over a four-day weekend.
At first, Charlie is intimidated by Frank’s gruff demeanor and his acute sense of smell, which allows him to accurately identify people and objects by scent. Charlie soon discovers that Frank is blind and is planning to commit suicide, and that he has been hired as a companion to keep him company.
Charlie and Frank bond over the weekend, and Frank teaches Charlie about life and how to stand up for himself. Frank also reveals to Charlie his plan to attend a formal military ball at the school, where he intends to confront the school’s headmaster.
At the ball, Frank reveals that he is aware of the school’s corruption and exploitation of its students and makes a powerful speech denouncing the school’s practices. Charlie is inspired by Frank’s bravery and stands up to the headmaster
