Synopsis – What to Expect from “Saint Judy”
Saint Judy is a drama film based on the true story of immigration attorney Judy Wood, who single-handedly changed the U.S. law of asylum to save women’s lives.
The film follows Judy’s journey as she takes on the immigration system in a desperate attempt to save the life of her client, a woman fleeing from Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. Despite the challenges she faces, Judy is determined to fight for her client and her cause.
The story begins with Judy (Michelle Monaghan) leaving her comfortable life in Los Angeles to become an immigration attorney. Despite her inexperience, she quickly finds success in the courtroom and is soon making a name for herself.
But when she takes on the case of a young Afghan woman seeking asylum, she finds herself in uncharted territory. The woman is fleeing from Taliban-controlled Afghanistan and seeking refuge in the United States. Despite the odds, Judy is determined to fight for her client and her cause.
Judy’s fight for justice takes her all the way to the Supreme Court, where she must convince the justices to change the law of asylum in order to save her client’s life. Along the way, she meets a diverse cast of characters, including a sympathetic judge (Alfred Molina), a passionate pro bono lawyer (Common), and her own devoted assistant (Leem Lubany).
