Synopsis – What to Expect from “Safety”
Safety is a 2020 American sports drama film directed by Reginald Hudlin and starring Jay Reeves as Ray McElrathbey, a young football player who takes responsibility for his 11-year-old brother Fahmarr when their mother is no longer able to care for him.
The film begins with Ray, a freshman at Clemson University, struggling to balance his studies and football practices with caring for Fahmarr, who he had to take custody of and bring to live with him on campus. Ray’s teammates and coaches are initially resistant to the idea of having a child living on the team’s property, but eventually accept him as one of their own.
As Ray and Fahmarr settle into their new lives, they face numerous obstacles. Ray is constantly struggling to keep his grades up and make sure Fahmarr is taken care of, while Fahmarr is trying to adjust to his new school and fit in with his peers.
Meanwhile, Ray’s teammates and coaches rally around him and Fahmarr, helping them out whenever they can. Ray’s coach even goes so far as to set up a special fund to help pay for Fahmarr’s tuition and other expenses.
The film culminates in Ray’s team making it to the championship game, where Ray and Fahmarr’s bond is tested as Ray must choose between his own dreams and his brother’s well-being. In the end, Ray realizes that family is the most important
