Synopsis – What to Expect from “Ruby Sparks”
Ruby Sparks is a romantic comedy-drama released in 2012. The movie follows Calvin Weir-Fields, a young novelist struggling to write his second book. He has writer’s block and is unable to come up with any new ideas.
One day, Calvin dreams of a beautiful, red-haired girl named Ruby Sparks. He is inspired to write a story about her and, to his surprise, she comes to life. Ruby is a real person, living in his house and interacting with him and his family. Calvin is in disbelief, but he soon falls in love with her.
Calvin discovers that he can control Ruby’s behavior by writing about her in his novel. He can make her do whatever he wants, and he begins to take advantage of this power. He starts to think of Ruby as a possession, not a person.
Meanwhile, Ruby starts to feel trapped and frustrated by Calvin’s controlling behavior. She begins to question her own identity and the meaning of her existence.
Calvin’s brother Harry, a psychologist, helps him to realize the consequences of his actions. He tells Calvin that he must accept Ruby for who she is and not try to control her.
Calvin eventually realizes that he must let Ruby be her own person and make her own decisions. He apologizes to her and they reconcile. In the end, Calvin and Ruby find a way to make their relationship work.
