Synopsis – What to Expect from “Roxanne”
Roxanne is a 1987 romantic comedy starring Steve Martin and Daryl Hannah. The movie is set in a small town in the Pacific Northwest, and tells the story of C.D. Bales (Steve Martin), the fire chief of the town of Nelson. C.D. is a bit of a loner, but he is very popular with the ladies.
One day, a beautiful woman named Roxanne (Daryl Hannah) moves to town and C.D. is instantly smitten. However, Roxanne is engaged to the wealthy and arrogant Chris (Rick Rossovich). Chris is the complete opposite of C.D: he is wealthy, handsome, and popular.
C.D. and Roxanne become friends, and C.D. begins to fall in love with her. He eventually musters up the courage to tell her how he feels, but she rejects him, telling him that she is in love with Chris.
Heartbroken, C.D. turns to his friend and mentor, the astronomer Max (Fred Willard), for advice. Max tells him that the only way to win Roxanne’s heart is to prove to her that he is a better man than Chris.
C.D. sets out to prove himself to Roxanne, and in the process, he learns a lot about himself and the power of true love. He also discovers that Chris is not as perfect as he appears to be.
