Synopsis – What to Expect from “Rosewater”
Rosewater is a 2014 drama film directed by Jon Stewart and starring Gael GarcÃa Bernal. The film tells the story of Maziar Bahari, an Iranian-Canadian journalist who was arrested and imprisoned in Iran for 118 days in 2009 while covering the 2009 Iranian presidential election.
The film begins with Maziar (Gael GarcÃa Bernal) in Tehran, Iran, covering the 2009 Iranian presidential election. After the election, a wave of protests erupts throughout the city. Maziar is arrested and taken to Evin Prison, where he is interrogated by a man known only as “Rosewater” (Kim Bodnia). Rosewater is a member of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and is tasked with extracting information from Maziar.
The film follows Maziar’s experience in prison, as he is subjected to physical and psychological torture. Despite this, Maziar remains resilient and refuses to give in to his interrogator’s demands. Meanwhile, his wife and family back in London are desperately trying to secure his release.
The film culminates with Maziar’s eventual release and his return to Canada. Despite his ordeal, Maziar is determined to continue his work as a journalist and to fight for freedom of speech and expression in Iran.
