River’s Edge is a 1986 American drama film directed by Tim Hunter and starring Crispin Glover, Keanu Reeves, Ione Skye, and Dennis Hopper. The film follows a group of teenagers in a small California town as they grapple with the aftermath of one of their friends murdering another.
The film opens with a teenage boy, John (Keanu Reeves), walking along the edge of a river. He comes across the body of a young girl, Jamie (Danielle Von Zerneck), who has been murdered. John quickly tells his friends, who are all shocked by the news.
John’s best friend, Layne (Crispin Glover), is particularly disturbed by the news. He begins to act out, skipping school and engaging in dangerous activities. He soon becomes obsessed with finding out who the murderer is.
Meanwhile, John’s girlfriend, Clarissa (Ione Skye), is struggling with her own demons. She is being abused by her father, and she is struggling to cope with the trauma of her friend’s death.
Layne eventually discovers that the murderer is their friend, Samson (Joshua Miller). He confronts Samson and threatens to turn him in to the police. Samson begs Layne to keep quiet, but Layne refuses.
