Synopsis/Plot
Rise of the Planet of the Apes is a 2011 science fiction film directed by Rupert Wyatt and starring James Franco, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, Brian Cox, Tom Felton, and Andy Serkis. The film is a reboot of the Planet of the Apes franchise and is a prequel to the 1968 Planet of the Apes film.
The film follows a scientist, Will Rodman (James Franco), who is experimenting with a drug to cure Alzheimer’s disease. When one of his chimpanzees is exposed to the drug, it unexpectedly gains human-level intelligence. Will takes the chimp, named Caesar, home to protect him, and Caesar quickly learns to communicate with sign language.
As Caesarbegins to display greater intelligence, Will and his father, Charles (John Lithgow), realize that Caesar has the potential to become a powerful leader. Will and Charles attempt to protect Caesar from the cruel treatment of the other humans, but Caesar is eventually taken away and placed in a primate facility.
At the facility, Caesar is mistreated by the cruel warden, Dodge Landon (Tom Felton). Caesar eventually rallies the other apes to rise up against their captors and escape the facility. After a series of battles, the apes succeed in taking over the facility and establish a new home in the Muir Woods. The apes then set out to build a new society, free from human oppression.
