Synopsis – What to Expect from “Rifkin’s Festival”
Rifkin’s Festival is a 2020 Spanish comedy-drama film directed by Woody Allen.
The film follows a middle-aged American tourist, Abe Rifkin (played by Wallace Shawn), who is visiting the small Spanish town of San Sebastian for the annual film festival. While in town, Abe meets a young local woman, Miriam (Gael García Bernal), and the two quickly form a connection.
As Abe and Miriam explore the town and its sights, they also explore their own feelings for one another. However, their relationship is complicated by Abe’s age and the fact that he is married. Despite this, the two continue to grow closer, and Abe begins to question his life and his marriage.
Meanwhile, the town is abuzz with the film festival, and Abe and Miriam attend several screenings. At one screening, Abe has a chance encounter with an old friend, Jack (Larry David), who is in town to promote his latest film. Jack’s presence serves as a reminder of Abe’s past life in Hollywood, and Abe begins to feel torn between his past and his present.
As the festival draws to a close, Abe must decide whether to stay in San Sebastian with Miriam or return to his life in the United States. Ultimately, Abe must make a choice between his passion for Miriam and the security of his marriage.
