Synopsis/Plot
Return to Oz is a 1985 fantasy adventure film directed by Walter Murch and starring Fairuza Balk as Dorothy Gale. The film is based on the books The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum and Ozma of Oz.
The film begins with Dorothy Gale being taken to a mental institution by her Aunt Em and Uncle Henry. There, she meets Dr. Worley, a cruel and unsympathetic doctor who wants to shock Dorothy into forgetting her memories about Oz. However, Dorothy escapes with her pet chicken Billina, and soon finds herself back in Oz.
Upon her return, Dorothy discovers that the Emerald City has been destroyed by the Nome King and his army of Wheelers. She also learns that her old friends, the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion, have been turned to stone by the evil witch Mombi. With the help of her new friends, Tik-Tok, Jack Pumpkinhead, and the Gump, Dorothy sets off on a quest to find the legendary Princess Ozma and restore the Emerald City to its former glory.
