Synopsis – What to Expect from “Rent”
Rent is a 2019 romantic drama film directed by Chris Columbus, based on Jonathan Larson’s Tony Award-winning musical of the same name.
The movie follows a group of young bohemian artists struggling to make ends meet while living in the vibrant Alphabet City of New York City. The main characters are Mark (Taye Diggs), an aspiring filmmaker; Roger (Adam Pascal), an HIV-positive musician; Mimi (Rosario Dawson), an exotic dancer and Roger’s love interest; Maureen (Idina Menzel), an outspoken performance artist; Tom (Jesse L. Martin), a gay professor; Collins (Wilson Jermaine Heredia), a computer technician and Angel (Wilson Jermaine Heredia), a drag queen and Tom’s love interest.
The story follows the characters as they struggle to cope with life’s hardships, while still trying to make their dreams come true. They are all facing eviction from their apartments, and must find a way to make enough money to pay the rent. The characters all come together to form a family, and help each other get through their struggles.
