Synopsis/Plot
Rendition is a 2007 political thriller film directed by Gavin Hood and starring Reese Witherspoon, Jake Gyllenhaal, Meryl Streep, and Alan Arkin. The film follows a CIA analyst who is assigned to investigate the case of an Egyptian-born man who has been detained by the U.S. government and sent to a secret prison in an unnamed country. The analyst discovers that the man has been tortured and is determined to uncover the truth.
The film opens with a bombing in an unnamed Middle Eastern country that kills a CIA operative. The CIA suspects that an Egyptian-born chemical engineer, Anwar El-Ibrahimi (Omar Metwally), is responsible, but they have no proof. To get the evidence they need, they send him to a secret prison in an unnamed country and subject him to torture. This sparks an international controversy and leads to the involvement of a CIA analyst, Douglas Freeman (Jake Gyllenhaal), who is assigned to investigate the case.
Freeman discovers that El-Ibrahimi was tortured and that his wife, Isabella (Reese Witherspoon), was also detained and questioned. He is determined to uncover
