Synopsis/Plot
Red State is a 2011 horror-thriller film written and directed by Kevin Smith and starring Michael Parks, Melissa Leo, John Goodman, and Michael Angarano. It follows three teenage boys who are lured to a remote religious compound by an online invitation. Once there, they find themselves in the middle of a violent standoff between the FBI and a fundamentalist Christian sect led by the charismatic and dangerous Abin Cooper (Michael Parks).
The movie opens with three teenage boys, Travis (Michael Angarano), Billy Ray (Nicholas Braun), and Jarod (Kyle Gallner), responding to an online invitation to meet a woman for a sexual encounter. When they arrive at the address, they find themselves in the middle of a fundamentalist Christian compound led by Abin Cooper. Cooper and his followers are highly suspicious of the boys and take them hostage.
The FBI soon arrives and a violent standoff ensues. As the situation escalates, the boys find themselves in the middle of a power struggle between Cooper and the FBI. Cooper is determined to keep his followers safe and will do whatever it takes to keep them from being taken away.
