Synopsis/Plot
Red Corner is a 1997 American legal thriller film directed by Jon Avnet and starring Richard Gere. The film follows an American businessman visiting Beijing, China, who is falsely accused of rape and murder. In order to prove his innocence, he must face the Chinese legal system and the corruption that lies within it.
Jack Moore (Richard Gere) is an American businessman who is invited to Beijing, China, to finalize a business deal. While there, he meets a beautiful Chinese woman and they spend the night together. The next morning, he wakes up to find her dead in his hotel room and is immediately arrested and charged with her murder.
Despite his pleas of innocence, he is sentenced to death by the Chinese court. With the help of a Chinese lawyer, Shen Yuelin (Bai Ling), Jack begins to uncover the truth behind the murder and a conspiracy to frame him. As he fights to prove his innocence, Jack must navigate the Chinese legal system, which is rife with corruption and injustice.
