Synopsis – What to Expect from “Recount”
Recount is a 2008 American political drama film written and directed by Jay Roach. The film stars Kevin Spacey, Bob Balaban, Ed Begley Jr., Laura Dern, Denis Leary and John Hurt. It chronicles the 2000 United States presidential election and the subsequent recounts in Florida.
The film opens on election night, November 7th, 2000, with the results of the Florida vote still uncertain. Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris (Laura Dern) is in charge of the recount and is determined to finish it quickly, despite the protests of the Democrats. She is also under pressure from Governor Jeb Bush (Denis Leary), who is eager to see his brother, George W. Bush, declared the winner.
Meanwhile, the Democrats have hired lawyer Ron Klain (Kevin Spacey) to lead their efforts to ensure a fair recount. Klain teams up with David Boies (Bob Balaban) to fight for the rights of the voters and to ensure that all votes are counted.
The film follows the twists and turns of the recounts, with Harris and the Republicans trying to limit the recounts, and Klain and the Democrats fighting for a fair and complete recount. As the situation becomes increasingly tense, the two sides battle in court and in the media, determined to get the result they want.
At the same time, the film explores the human side of the story, with Klain struggling to balance his work with his home
