Synopsis/Plot
Rebel Without a Cause is a 1955 American drama film starring James Dean, Natalie Wood, and Sal Mineo. It was directed by Nicholas Ray and written by Stewart Stern and Irving Shulman, based on the 1945 novel of the same name by Robert Lindner. The film tells the story of Jim Stark, a rebellious and misunderstood teenager who moves to a new town with his family and finds himself in conflict with his parents, teachers, and peers.
The story takes place in the 1950s in the suburban Los Angeles area, where Jim Stark (James Dean) and his family have just moved. After a series of run-ins with the police, Jim is sent to a juvenile detention center where he meets Plato (Sal Mineo), a troubled teenager who idolizes Jim. Jim soon meets Judy (Natalie Wood), a girl from his school, and the two quickly become friends.
Jim and his friends are constantly at odds with the adults in their lives, who are unable to understand their problems. Jim’s parents, Frank (Jim Backus) and Helen (Ann Doran), are distant and unable to relate to him. His teachers are unsympathetic and dismissive of his concerns. Jim and his friends
