Synopsis/Plot
Raising Helen is a heartwarming 2004 comedy-drama directed by Garry Marshall and starring Kate Hudson, John Corbett, Joan Cusack, and Helen Mirren.
The film follows Helen Harris (Hudson), a successful fashion executive living in New York City, whose life is turned upside down when her sister and brother-in-law die in a car accident. Helen is left to care for her three young nieces and nephew, who she must move to the suburbs of Long Island.
Helen is forced to give up her carefree lifestyle to become a mother figure to the children. She must learn to balance her career with her new responsibilities as a guardian. Along the way, Helen discovers the true meaning of family and learns to put the children’s needs before her own.
The film is a lighthearted yet heartfelt look at the struggles of single parenthood. With the help of her brother-in-law’s best friend, Jenny (Cusack), her mother-in-law, Lily (Mirren), and her boss, Henry (Corbett), Helen learns to love and care for her nieces and nephew.
