Synopsis – What to Expect from “Quiz Show”
Quiz Show is a 1994 American drama film directed by Robert Redford, based on the true story of the 1950s game show scandals. The film stars John Turturro, Ralph Fiennes, Rob Morrow, and Paul Scofield.
The film begins with a flashback to the 1950s, when Americans were captivated by the popular quiz show “Twenty-One”. Stempel is a champion on the show, winning several weeks in a row.
Enright and Freedman then decide to bring in a new contestant, Charles Van Doren, a handsome and well-educated Ivy League professor. Van Doren quickly becomes the show’s biggest star, and Stempel is soon replaced. Stempel becomes suspicious of the show’s integrity and decides to confront Enright and Freedman.
Meanwhile, Richard Goodwin, an ambitious young lawyer and congressional investigator, begins to look into the game show scandals. He discovers that the producers are providing the contestants with the answers before the show. Goodwin then begins to investigate Van Doren, Stempel, and the show’s producers.
The film culminates in a dramatic court hearing, where Stempel and Van Doren are called to testify. Van Doren finally admits to being fed
