Synopsis – What to Expect from “Purgatory”
Purgatory is a 1999 western film directed by Uli Edel and starring Sam Shepard, Eric Roberts, and Burt Reynolds. The movie follows the story of two outlaws, Tom and Sam, who are on the run from the law after a robbery gone wrong.
The movie opens with Tom and Sam on the run in the desert after a bank robbery. They come across a small town called Purgatory, and decide to stay for a while. The town is populated by a strange collection of characters, including a mysterious old man, a mute girl, and a preacher who seems to know more than he’s letting on.
Tom and Sam soon discover that the town is haunted by the ghost of a dead outlaw, who is seeking revenge on the townspeople who wronged him. The ghost is intent on killing the townspeople, and Tom and Sam must find a way to stop him.
Meanwhile, the townspeople are caught in the middle of a feud between two powerful families, the Carvers and the McAllisters. The feud is further complicated when one of the Carver’s sons, John, falls in love with the McAllister’s daughter, Sarah.
Tom and Sam soon realize that the only way to end the feud and save the town is to confront the ghost of the dead outlaw. They enlist the help of the old man and the mute girl, and together they set out to find the ghost and put an
