Synopsis/Plot
Psycho is a 1960 psychological horror film directed by Alfred Hitchcock and based on the novel of the same name by Robert Bloch. The film stars Anthony Perkins as Norman Bates, a disturbed young man who runs the Bates Motel. Janet Leigh plays Marion Crane, a secretary who is on the run after stealing money from her employer.
The film opens with Marion on the run, having stolen $40,000 from her employer. She stops at the Bates Motel, where she meets Norman Bates, the young proprietor. Norman is an awkward, shy man who is dominated by his overbearing mother. As their relationship develops, Marion begins to suspect that something is not quite right with Norman and his mother.
Marion eventually discovers the horrible truth behind the Bates Motel. Norman’s mother is actually dead and Norman has been dressing up as her in order to keep her alive in his mind. Norman’s mother had been a domineering and abusive woman and Norman had killed her in a fit of rage. He had also killed two other people, Marion’s co-worker and a private detective who had been sent to investigate her disappearance.
