Psycho IV: The Beginning is a psychological horror film released in 1990. It is the fourth installment in the Psycho franchise, and a prequel to the original film.
The movie follows Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins) as he struggles to overcome his dark past. After years of therapy, Norman is living a peaceful life with his wife, Connie (Olivia Hussey). But his past comes back to haunt him when a radio show host (CCH Pounder) begins airing a series of interviews with Norman’s mother, Norma (Henry Thomas).
The interviews bring back memories of his traumatic childhood, and Norman begins to unravel. As the interviews continue, Norman’s mental state deteriorates and he begins to have visions of his mother. He also starts to fear that he is becoming like her.
Connie desperately tries to help him, but Norman’s mental state continues to decline. He begins to have violent outbursts and engages in self-destructive behavior. Ultimately, Norman is forced to confront his inner demons and come to terms with his past.
The movie is a gripping and suspenseful exploration of the psychological effects of trauma and abuse. It is a haunting look at the power of the past and how it can shape our present.
