Synopsis – What to Expect from “Procession”
Procession is a 2021 drama film directed by Mark J. Gordon and starring John Lithgow, Laura Dern, and Kayla Smith.
The film follows the story of a small town in the Midwest that is thrown into disarray when a beloved local figure, John Lithgow’s character, passes away. The townspeople come together to honor his life with a funeral procession, but this simple act of remembrance quickly becomes a complex and emotionally-charged event.
The procession is led by John’s daughter, Kayla Smith, who is still struggling to come to terms with her father’s death. As the procession winds through the town, Kayla begins to reflect on her relationship with her father and the life lessons he taught her. Along the way, she encounters a variety of people who were influenced by her father’s life, including Laura Dern’s character, a former lover of John’s.
The film culminates in a powerful and moving scene as the procession reaches its destination and the townspeople come together to pay their final respects to John. In the end, Kayla is able to find peace and closure as she comes to terms with her father’s death and the impact he had on her life.
